The OTHER Stuff in the Holy Writ

Having been raised in the (very) evangelical Christian Church (the branch that calls itself the “Reformation Movement” and encompasses broadly churches with the labels Church of God, Church of Christ, Christian, Nazarene, some of the Pentecostals and Charismatics, etc.). I won’t go into the history of it. Suffice it to say that the founders came from the Presbyterian and Baptist and winged it from there. One of the founders of the Mormon church was an early acolyte. This is all going on in and around 1840. Bring it forward to today and you’ve got the Mega churches, J. D. Jakes, Joel Osteen, Pat Robertson, Jimmy Swaggert, James Bakker, and all the rest as the ridiculous step-children of a once very humble search for God and Jesus. It’s amazing.

That’s why I know that these so-called Christians are:

  • Not being taught how to study and read the Scripture for themselves. (They have no idea what it actually contains beyond what somebody standing in a pulpit tells them it says. And let me tell you this-at least 70% of them have not been properly trained and don’t know s*** about it either.)
  • Have never ever read anything in it for themselves and wouldn’t know HOW to understand it if they did. (Culture, history, how many times it has been translated, transliterated, and the differences in language between Aramaic, Hebrew, Greek, and Latin all the way to English.)
  • And, Lawdy, lawdy, the stories like these that they have no idea that are in there. Because that is one BRUTAL, BLOODY, and in some places, downright BAWDY collection of writings.

But if you ask them about these passages, they’ll look at you as if you’ve suddenly grown six horns, eight eyes, and turned puce. Try it. If you’re feeling really frisky, go to a Wednesday Bible Study and ask the preacher about it cold. Ask him to explain it to you. It gets really interesting really fast.

My point is that these folks can quote a lot of stuff, but they are using the words out of context and with the opposite meaning than what was intended. They are trying to force THEIR meaning of what THEY want it to say. It doesn’t work that way. That’s the arrogance of mankind.

“God breathed into Adam the Breath of Like, and Adam became a living man.” That’s the key to the whole beginning of life argument right there. Breath. The ability to breathe on one’s own and sustain one’s body independently.

Share this if you wish. Like my posts so I will know how many are reading it. I’m running for the State Senate here in Georgia and if you are in my district (29), I would appreciate your vote and support.

Live in west central GA with 5 horses, 2 dachshunds, 3 cats. Life is complicated. Especially when you are an older female living in rural Georgia and the system is definitely rigged against you. God, I've learned to appreciate at least something of what minorities go through. White men are such boar hogs.
