They took the man seriously.

I don’t know if they seriously considered the possibility of the consequences of their actions, but these people are certainly looking them straight in the eye now. The DOJ has well over 1,000 convictions under their belt just for January 6, and just about every single one of them has done time behind bars. They are still going, too, and word is that they won’t slow down for quite some time yet. More grist for the mill of Justice.

As of May 24, 2023, four leaders of the group called the Oath Keepers have been sentenced to prison. The longest sentence was given to Stewart Rhodes, who got 18 years for various charges including seditious conspiracy. The judges are viewing their actions as “terrorism” and sentencing accordingly.

Various groups have been implicated in support of Donald Trump and his far-right wing supporters. Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, Ku Klux Klan, Aryan Nations, Blood & Honor, Brotherhood of Klans, Federation for American Immigration Reform, Social Contract Press, Nuwabian Nation of Moors, National Alliance, Imperial Klans of America, VDare, New Black Panther Party, Church of the National Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, Vinlanders Social Club, American Family Association, a fundamentalist sect of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, American Freedom Party, a fair number of the Border Patrol (yes, the CBP-I didn’t realize this until I joined Parler and started reading some of their posts-they are really nasty about Mexicans in particular, but most immigrants), National Socialist Movement, Creativity Movement (which is actually a bunch of skinheads!), Stormfront, Council of Conservative Citizens, Liberty Counsel (yep, founded by a man who was part of Liberty University on their Law School-Jerry Falwell Sr’s baby and his son ran it for the longest time until he ran into scandals), League of the South (also a bunch of Southern university professors, but it may/may not be affiliated), ACT for America, White Lives Matter, Traditionalist Worker Party, Family Watch International, World Congress of Families, and many more. Personally, I consider every last one of them to be home grown domestic terrorists. The only thing that really separates them is the target of their hatred. I’m not alone in this viewpoint either. The FBI does, too. So does the DOJ.

Do I hate them? No. I have little reason to do that. While I do not agree with their beliefs or lifestyles, I’m like the ACLU in that I believe that they have the First Amendment right to believe and say whatever they want-up to the point that it hurts somebody else. Then we have a problem and it needs to stop. It’s the verbal equivalent of you have the right to swing your arms around as hard as you want with your hands balled up in a fist UNTIL your fist makes contact with my face or I have a genuine fear of you hitting my face. At that point, you lose your right to swing your arms around indiscriminately. I have a right to protect my face from your fist, too. One right limits the other.

That’s what these “hate groups” do not understand and do not want to learn. They lack the emotional maturity of a four-year-old child to learn the limits of their rights and they want to be the centers of their own universes and they want it NOW. What babes they are. The problem is that they have persuaded others and now they have money and arms.

You see, they like to harp on individual ‘freedom’ and that’s all well and good. Let’s examine something here. When a child is born, they are “dependent” upon others for everything they need in terms of food, security, support, and education. As they grow, we encourage them to become more ‘independent by helping them learn to feed themselves, walk then run, be confident in their interactions with their peers, and educate them in all aspects of life as we perceive it. Hopefully, by the time they reach 18-21, they are well-adapted functioning adults able to function without their parents. However, society now has the task of teaching them to be INTERDEPENDENT. This is where, I think, these people have flunked out of the course. Interdependence is the way we are taught the skills and methods that we need to socially work as a unit with society AS A WHOLE. John Donne famously said “No man is an island, no man stands alone…” It is very true. (Look up the rest of the poem. It is epic.) You cannot exist as a human being without other human beings. We are social beings or “herd animals”. We need to be with our own kind. To deny that is to become bitter, cruel, self-centered, and ultimately self-destructive. Instead of working together for the common good, people start using others and tearing down societal norms. It is ugly and violent.

There are few things worse than children with high-powered weapons. They must be stopped. How do we stop them? I’ve already written about the assault weapons. There will be a post about how to stop these domestic terrorists as well.
