Stick His Wallet In It

She did it. At least for the time being and we’ll take it. She shut him up.

E. Jean Carroll was able to do what nobody else in the country has been able to do.

A. Get his attention in a way that no other person has done about a subject that he obviously did not deem worthy of his notice, i.e. women and their bodily autonomy. Women have always been toys and tools to him in ways far more extensive than that of men. They’ve nurtured, babied, cajoled his feelings, given of themselves, coped with his tantrums, fed him, and generally pampered him. He is not accustomed to a woman not only telling him ‘No’ but making it stick.

B. She gave him a boundary. He crossed that boundary, and she pursued the penalty of crossing that boundary like a Federal Marshall. Very few people do that these days. She did it by legal means and she kept the pressure up. He’s accustomed to paying off accusers and having them sign non-disclosure agreements. Carroll refused to cave in. She was the last of 27 women. He really did not think she would last until the very end, but she did, and he will pay either her or her estate.

C. He is not accustomed to Federal courts which are far more formal than the State courts he has been in most of his life. Federal judges do not abide tantrums, outbursts, and running commentary like his. They also will not tolerate incompetent attorneys like Alina Habba who didn’t even know how to properly introduce evidence into the trial. Judge Kaplan ruled his courtroom like most judges will and should. Trump was totally flummoxed.

D.Observers should note that it WAS NOT the judge who handed the penalty to Trump, but the 9-person jury selected by both sides of the litigants. In legal parlance, it was Trump’s peers who decided what he needed to pay in damages to E. Jean Carroll. The largest portion of that amount was in punitive damages meaning that they saw fit to award ~ $2million/year for running his mouth off about her and ruining her career as a columnist for ELLE magazine. Here’s the kicker to that one: they could have gone higher. That’s actually quite reasonable.

Now Trump will appeal. That is a given. If he’s at all smart, he’ll get somebody experienced in handling federal appeals cases to handle the case as Habba is clearly over her head even with her high heels on. He’ll have to make arrangement about the funds somehow. Either pay the court and the court will hold them, get a bond from a bank willing to do business with him (good luck with that right now), or some other arrangement that they all agree to. In any event, he will have to come up with the money and he will no longer have control over it. That will anger him deeply.

But he did not mention E. Jean Carroll or refer to the case afterwards except to say that he would be appealing the decision. That, by itself, is a miracle of sorts.

The way to silence Donald Trump is to stuff his wallet in his mouth.
