For a guy with so many blemishes, this is at least an unblemished record. Although it is probably a record he’d rather not have.
He’s batting a perfect 1.000 at LOSING every single lawsuit, motion, appeal, and any other legal maneuver that he has attempted since being “fired” from the White House. He wasn’t doing very well while he was in the White House either, truth be told, but he’s really either had bad legal representation, or he had bad judgment to start with. I’m opting for the third choice: both. I’m a very amateur but very interested observer of anything to do with the legal system and it seems to me that for a guy who is supposedly rolling in money, he ought to be able to buy the best attorneys around. But these people? They’re making mistakes you’d see on ‘Perry Mason’ reruns, not even on ‘Law and Order’.
Of course, part of this stems from the fact that he is trying to use the stall and delay tactics that worked for him in civil litigation courts. Those tactics won’t work in criminal courts. Judges don’t like them and won’t tolerate them.
His modus operandi of trying to influence judges, witnesses, and juries via social media won’t work either. He’s already gotten himself into trouble yapping on Truth Social and doubtless will again. If he keeps it up, he’ll find himself with a gag order, or worse, behind bars. So far, Jack Smith and the DOJ have bent over backward to allow no talk of “persecution, torture, or undue restriction of movement.” They don’t have to do what they’ve done and, like a child, Trump is trying to see how far he can push them before they will lock his petulant fanny up. If he keeps poking that bear, he’s going to find out. (Thing is, the MAGA people will scream foul and may turn violent, while the rest of us are applauding, cheering, and dancing in the streets.
Personally, I think restricting his movements and contacts with the media and social platforms would be a terrific idea. Now whether that means actual jail time would be up to the judge, but I would suggest NOT at a swanky golf club or hotel. )
If the DOJ is worried about security, I might suggest something like this. It has survived for centuries, has housed kings, queens, prelates, dukes, duchesses, various nobility, and others for many reasons. Some left there and some were executed and buried in the courtyard (Anne Boelyn and Richard II) . The walls of the White Tower are 10 feet thick at the base. The primary issue would be in getting the UK to take him as a temporary resident. The late Queen wouldn’t even allow him to stay overnight in one of her residences during a visit. But they might make an exception for the change of accommodations. You never know. (And, yes, I know King Charles can’t stand him.)
Now as to who takes the first crack at him in court (Willis, Smith, one of the NY District Attorneys, or somebody else), I don’t know. I wouldn’t want to be in his ill-fitting suit.
