Boy, was he wrong! And I’ve come to the conclusion that quite a good many of them have gone rancid to boot. All of this is frustrating to me because I do love the “nuts” of society. They’re what makes life interesting, can be special, and different. But, doggone, folks! Enough already with the sheer meanness, lies, cruelty, and sadism.
It seems as though every day, we find another way, another person has found a way to torment a minority, torture a defenseless person, or be senselessly cruel to someone just for the seeming heck of doing it. It is time for the rest of us to stop standing around with our mouths gaped open in wonder at their unmitigated gall and call them out, hold them accountable, and, more importantly, stand up for the targets of their abuse.
Example: Marjorie “the Torturer” Greene has become ever bold in the House of Representatives in her loud-mouth attacks of those she deems to be “enemies” of Donald Trump and the rule of authoritarianism. She will go after anyone. It has earned her the singular distinction of being thrown OUT of the Freedom Caucus, which is a loosely knit group of loud-mouth right-wingers. Just this week, she attacked a private citizen for actions he made over ten years ago while having personal problems with addiction. Greene held up lewd photos of him in the nude for the House member to see and posted them on her website. These were sourced from his laptop. Why did she do this? Because he happens to be the younger son of the man who is currently our President. Mind you, he was NOT the occupant of that office at that time. Nothing that his son did was or ever has been linked to him politically. Yet Greene continues to try to publicly and salaciously slander him.

Furthermore, her actions may have opened her up for legal problems of her own. Publishing those photos on the internet without an age filter could violate pornography laws on a federal level. If so, she has tripped over her own overzealous feet. It was announced on Friday, July 21, that a case had been filed with the Office of Congressional Ethics charging her with breaching the rules of ethics in displaying those photos in the Committee room.
Example: Five years after their children were taken away from them, parents from South American countries are still fighting to get them back from this country. Sometimes the children can be located and sometimes they cannot. Here’s the problem for the children: they’ve had five years to learn to live here, learn English, learn to love a new family, they’ve given up on going back to their birth family and grown away from them, they’ve learned to call foster parents “mom” and “dad”, they have school friends, and they have all the things kids here have that they know kids there don’t. Add to that the changes in emotions that children naturally experience between let’s say ages 8-13. Throw in the fact that Foster Court judges are charged with doing “what is in the best interest of the child” and you find things are in a great big complicated hash that frequently leaves foster families, biological families, and the children in a tortured maze. Who started this in the first place? Stephen Miller, an advisor to Donald Trump, came up with it by all reports, but the Homeland Security Department and Department of Interior grabbed onto it and Trump approved it. The sheer unadulterated cruelty just keeps on giving.

What is most notable about Miller is that he is of Jewish heritage himself and the grandson of Holocaust survivors. Yet he is a believer in the principles of Fascism and is an avid student of Hitler and the methods used during the Third Reich to “subdue the Romany, gypsies, Jews, Poles, homosexuals, and other undesirables among the population.” SMH

EXAMPLE: This guy is just full of examples. The photo is just one of them. That’s who you think it is. Ron & Casey DeSantis getting married at Disney of all places. Considering his current antipathy of Disney, it does make you wonder if he has regrets now. (I don’t know whether that would be a good or bad thing for her or not. I do know she had a cancer diagnosis a couple of years ago. So there is that.)
I do not have an opinion about Disney. It’s a corporation and a very big one at that. I have never owned a share in it. I’ve been to both Disneyland and Disney World and don’t remember much of anything special about either with the exception of being very hot and uncomfortable. I’ve never been much on theme parks or rides of any kind so don’t judge by my response. BUT I do recognize that many people love them and that’s just fine and dandy. I don’t have a problem with any of it. They should be inclusive of the population at large just as a matter of policy. Apparently, that’s precisely where I and Disney differ from Ron DeSantis.
DeSantis has been campaigning to rid Florida’s schools of books that teach that slavery was anything but “helpful” to Black people because it “taught them skills that would be useful to them after they were freed.” Excuse me? Being sold away from your family, beaten, humiliated, raped (both genders), deliberately “bred” for work, inherited like chattel, intentionally not educated, abused in so many ways, and he wants BLACK and brown people taught their families endured this as a benefit? And white children to believe that Black people actually ENJOYED this treatment? Excuse me, Ron and Casey, but if this is so desirable, why haven’t you and your children lived like this YOURSELVES? If it is that beneficial, then surely you want your family to benefit from the experience as well, correct? No? Why not?
Talk about some “white privilege”. That guy is “eat up” with some “bleached white privilege”. WOW.
He’s also got a thing about sexual identity. I don’t know if he’s got a problem with his own, but he’s got a problem. He wants to look in everybody’s pants and their private lives, baby. Just because it’s none of his damn business doesn’t mean he’s not trying AND he’s making it into Florida’s school and state business. Schools have to see birth certificates to see which team your kids can play on, go to the bathroom in, or change in which locker room. I have a problem with any school official checking a child’s privates as being really invasive and they need to keep their noses parallel with the ground and not sticking into their underwear. Don’t get me on my soapbox.
I guarantee Mr. DeSantis that all kids are very much aware of who has what kind of parents, be it married man/woman, man/man, woman/woman, or single mom, single dad, foster parents, guardians, or whatever. They just don’t much care as long as they are safe, secure, cared for, and loved. As far as the sleeping arrangements go, they don’t much care about that either. Now you can get all “preachy” here if you want to, but seriously, they don’t care. Yeah, good examples are great and all that, but I can tell you this from working with the Troup County Foster program: you can have a mom and dad married, going to church, and the whole nine yards of it, but it doesn’t mean one damn thing if there is no love in the home. I’ll take one of the others with tons of love for the kids any day of the week. Appearances can go to the Devil himself. Ron DeSantis talks about “the proof is in the pudding”? Well, he fails that test miserably.
Oh, there’s lots more. I’m just being practical here. Don’t talk about how righteous you are. Show me. What are you doing? What have you done? Who are you?
